From the desk of Mario Velez

The current economic crisis reminds us how quickly market conditions can change. Now more than ever, operators with flexible business models and next-generation infrastructure can turn risks into opportunities.

When BT conducted a survey of business leaders and CxOs about attitudes toward network and business transformation, 74% said they already had a strategy for developing NGN services and 22% were developing one.

The current economic situation makes transformation even more urgent: Operators need an agile business that can react swiftly to changing market conditions, which in turn drive changes in customer behaviour, requirements and demands. Because you can only guess at what is coming, you need the flexibility of a transformed infrastructure more than you did before. But there can be big barriers for a transforming operator to overcome. BT's survey shows that implementation is a major concern for many.

At BT we are addressing your needs with our Network and Business Transformation Solutions that offer end-to-end support, including consultancy and build services and propositions, such as Network Operations Centre, to help you develop a flexible network infrastructure.

Another important element of transforming is to develop a successful sourcing strategy. In the past, the telecoms industry has relied on wholesale services to provide infrastructure, platforms and geographic coverage. Now you also want solutions to help you manage your legacy platforms while you phase them out, consolidate your network infrastructure and migrate your customers to NGNs that can carry evolving voice, data and ICT applications. And as most of your retail customers look to benefit from convergence - from increased collaboration and integrating communication and business process applications with ICT solutions - wholesale isn't just about capacity anymore. So you have to enhance your portfolio with new capabilities leveraging new technologies.

The outcome of your transformation will determine the future potential and competitiveness of your business. So your choice of the right sourcing partner becomes a critical success factor.

BT GTM has established a track record of helping operators make their transformations work. By supporting you with our portfolio of traditional premium wholesale solutions as well as new-wave wholesale capabilities, BT can help you turn risks into opportunities for long-lasting business success.
