BT expands IP network reach across Brazil with SES AMERICOM-NEW SKIES

BT has signed a three-year agreement for nearly three full transponders of satellite capacity to extend its IP network deep into the remotest regions of Brazil.

Expanding from 92 to 104 megahertz of highly reliable C-band capacity aboard SES AMERICOM-NEW SKIES' NSS-10 satellite, BT is offering IP trunking services to link businesses based in Manaus and other rural stretches of Northern Brazil to its teleport and Internet access point in São Paulo. BT has also tapped a portion of the satellite bandwidth to support customer SCPC (single channel per carrier) and distance learning applications throughout Brazil.

"The agreement represents a significant expansion of the role SES AMERICOM-NEW SKIES is playing in support of BT and its innovative network and telecommunications solutions across Brazil," said Dolores Martos, Vice President of Latin America and Caribbean sales for SES AMERICOM-NEW SKIES. "Our NSS-10 satellite is well equipped and positioned to meet the growing demand for communications services across Brazil and the entire region."

"We have enlisted one of the most powerful C-band satellites over South America, backed by one of the most experienced teams in the industry at SES AMERICOM-NEW SKIES, to offer our business customers efficient, high-speed IP connectivity, clear channel links and video applications regardless of where they are in Brazil," said Mario Rodrigues, Head of Engineering for BT in Latin America, part of BT Global Services, one of the largest network service providers in the world.

About the NSS-10 Satellite
Serving regional, transcontinental and transoceanic customers in North America, the Caribbean, South America, Europe and Africa, NSS-10 is also capable of providing links to other regional satellite systems. Located at 322.5 degrees east, NSS-10 is delivering high-powered C-band capacity and is providing service with higher data throughput to smaller antennas with unsurpassed levels of reliability - even in areas of high rain zones. NSS-10's high throughput levels also make it an ideal platform to support VSAT and GSM backhaul services.
