BT at heart of Colombia summit

BT Global Services Enterprises president Luis Alvarez, returning from this year's World Economic Forum in Latin America in Colombia in April, said: "Latin America has presented itself as a set of more stable democracies with a larger number of countries with consolidated economic growth, protection of foreign investors and a focus on social increasing cohesion. For most government and business leaders, this year is a year of opportunity in the region."

With more than 500 representatives from government, business, international organisations and civil society at the event, Luis, together with vice-president and head of commercial operations Carlos Zamora, had packed diaries with private meetings.

In particular, Luis and Carlos met several representatives of the Colombian government - including president Alvaro Uribe, Luis Guillermo Plata, minister of trade, industry and tourism, and Daniel Medina, minister of ICT who highlighted the importance of companies like BT in the development of the country.

Latin America is an important market for BT, which serves key local customers, including the Colombian government, as well as large multinational corporations (MNCs).

"Colombia is a country full of opportunities," said Luis.
