Let’s talk Voice

First, GTM gives a warm welcome to newly-connected Premium Voice customers Medcom, Comstar, Vodaphone Turkey & PCCW. We value the trust you place in BT and are pleased to do business with you.

Moving on to news of the April-June quarter, BT's Global IP Exchange is connecting its first customer SFR via public internet, using SIP and adding numbers to BT's ENUM registry. Many more customers are queuing up to use the new service to exchange traffic in Asia and Europe, while others want to learn about its unique capabilities of END-TO-END IP.

For Afghanistan Roshan, who selected BT as their exclusive voice partner, we have provided additional capacity in several tranches since the service went live in July 2009. 72 E1s and transmission/switching diversity create ultimate network resilience across Pakistan via satellite, cable and microwave.

Roshan is the first carrier to work with BT to realise carrier-toll-quality voice at 12:1 compression, using Veraz I-gate compression kit. BT has set up individual links between Kabul and regional cities, including Kandahar, to carry Roshan's rest-of-world hubbing traffic via BT's Premium Voice product. BT guarantees 100% CLI to 618 international destination breakouts.

Using our partner Qi-Comm for timely provision of other Veraz I-gate solutions, we completed installation of this high-quality compression technology in record time for our customer Zain Ghana.

In some enthusiastic conversations at ITW in Washington in May, we talked with customers who are interested in using value-added services on top of our SMS Hubbing service that we featured in the January issue of Global Telecom News.

Also at ITW we brought out the new Sigtran (IP-Signalling) capability BT is adding to its RoamConnect managed service, which enables MNOs to offer their customers enhanced roaming. The Sigtran service will be available soon. When it is, you will be able to use our extensive world-class TDM routes on C7/SS7, or join the growing IP community that interconnects to our global MPLS network to provide a one-stop-shop for all their customers’ mobile roaming requirements.

We will soon launch Global Inbound Service (GIS) to carriers who may wish to use it for their own call centres or offer it to their enterprise customers such as banks and airlines. All these customers can benefit from BT's resilient, feature-rich and high-quality platform for Toll Free, Shared Access, Universal Toll Free and Local Geographic Numbers. BT’s enterprise customers use GIS so widely that it has grown to 2.5B minutes/year.
