From the desk of Manuel Arias Perez

Dear friends:

2009 marked our 20th anniversary at BT Spain. On that day October 1st 1989 at 09:00 we started what our former general manager Teofilo del Pozo described as a "telecom business marathon", with the clear understanding that we would only be as successful as our customers. This is especially true in the wholesale side of the business.

Looking back we feel proud that we’ve been able to deliver to you the benefits of:

The first frame relay network in Spain since 1994, the first global IP network for voice since 1999, the BT MPLS network since 2002...

...while serving you with the same passion as when we started the race.

You can read more about our BT Spain story in the article - "BT Spain celebrates twenty years of commitment to business innovation".

Continuing the marathon into the new decade, we have started to work together with our colleagues from BT Wholesale. A set of new products and services and a common strategy with our shared global accounts will enable us to bring more benefits to our customers.

Nowadays, I would say that three priorities guide our day-to-day work:

First, the economic environment has changed the conversations we are all having. Because controlling the risk between you and your end-customers is more important than ever, you may be interested in reading about how BT Revenue Maximisation solutions can help you.

Second, on the data services side I'm pleased to tell you that we can now offer you wholesale Ethernet access. We are developing a next-generation network with coverage in all of Spain which will enable you to serve your customers with services that bring more with less. For more information, see the the GTM internet pages.

Third, just a few months after signing the contract with Tata we already see results. The agreement gives us greater economies of scale that will stimulate competitiveness in the international calls market and enable BT to compete even better for traditional voice business. We can provide a quality layer on top of our supplier relationships for geographic coverage and combine it with our own footprint. Besides offering a one-stop-shop to you, our customers, we can ensure maximum quality and fall-back mechanisms to alternative suppliers, plus the opportunity to combine them with new-wave voice services. That creates the unique voice services proposition we put on the table to convince you that BT is the best choice for both traditional and new-wave voice business and for increasing your profitability.

Looking forward into 2010 and beyond, we will continue to deliver to you - not only in Spain but across the globe - the benefits of our wholesale portfolio. We would like you to keep sharing the journey with us.
