BT Spain celebrates twenty years of commitment to business innovation

BT has reached its first 20th anniversary in Spain, after twenty years in which it has stood out for offering the most advanced communications services to businesses and public sector organisations with a strong commitment to innovation.

BT was the first alternative network operator to establish itself in Spain and consequently played a vital role in liberating the telecoms market, contributing decisively to creating an effective competitive environment that has benefited businesses in the Spanish market.

Today BT is a firmly established company with 1,200 employees in Spain and revenue up above the figure of 500 million euros providing services to 2,000 major Spanish enterprises, 28 of which are listed in the IBEX-35 index and to over 30,000 small and medium enterprises throughout the country.

In addition to its pioneering role as a network operator, BT has reinforced its continual commitment to innovation, positioning itself as a leader in the introduction of new technologies and services for Spanish businesses.

"BT as a company has learned to constantly evolve in line with ever changing market expectations," said Jacinto Cavestany, Country Manager for BT in Spain. "Our leading commitment to the business world has been and continues to be to offer the best and highest quality service. We have always maintained this strategy and have structured our offering on the basis of the demand of the different client profiles that BT targets."

Spain was the location in which BT implemented the world's first IP network in 1999 when the future of this technology was still open to debate. In addition, the launch of IP telephony and MPLS were the first of its kind in the Spanish market.

As a result, BT is now the leading alternative in the enterprise data transmission market with over 20 per cent market share - just behind the incumbent operator - according to the most recent report by the telecoms market regulator Comisión del Mercado de las Telecomunicaciones (CMT) published in 2008. Consequently, BT is without a doubt the strongest alternative in the business telecommunications' market.

"BT's 20 years in the Spanish market have been characterised by the consolidation of a team based philosophy and by procedures focussed exclusively on client needs. All the innovations and technology products that have been carried out over these years have been realised with a sole objective: To meet service requirements and customer satisfaction in a key area for organisations: telecommunications, which should operate without interrupting the business environment," Jacinto concludes.
